Instant Slimmers

Chances are, you're not feeling particularly svelte this week, and you've still got New Year's to get through before you can really start the Big Diet to End All Diets. We've all got tricks to look a little thinner on our not-so-hot days- Here are a few of my favorites.

Spanx

Once I finally bit the bullet and tried Spanx for my beauty column, all I could think was, "What took me so long?!" Spanx make your body look better, no matter how much you weigh, which I'm sure is why even 100-pound celebrities admit to wearing them. They basically do the sucking in for you and who could argue with that?

To echo the Spanx idea, I always wear a long tank top underneath all of my shirts. I know that recently the Yummie Tummie has been all the rage, but I used to pick up dozens of long, spandex-y tanks from Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe - they just smooth everything out and make everyone look better.

Trust me, it works!

I have a friend who has a Yummie Tummie and she hasn't been happy with it, so I've never tried that line. Great idea, Sarah!

Gotta silly question about the tan - how easily does it wear off? Do you get streaks on your legs when you shave them? Do you have to be careful not to exfoliate or you'll scrub it off or make it uneven?

It lasts a good 7-9 days. No streaks, but you may get little dots of color on the drier areas of your skin that look like freckles. Most of those wash off when you shower the first time and I've found when I use the amplifier gel before "tanning," I get almost no spots. I don't exfoliate after I spray tan because I want to get my money's worth, but it's a good idea to exfoliate before you go in.

Well, I'm a very freckly person anyway, so I don't suppose that would be too bad :-)
