Hot Trend: Cobalt Blue

Blue is THE color of Spring 2010, according to the experts, and one variation on the blue theme is an electrified shade known as cobalt.

It's not a bad color when done right...

Help Desk: What Kinds of Sunglasses are In?

Allow me to introduce Amy.

Here we are in high school, right before a performance of Kiss Me Kate. I'll give you a moment to finish laughing at my hair.

What We're Wearing

The She's Still Got It Flickr group is off to a great start! Thanks to those who've posted photos and commented on the group pictures. And if you want to join in the fun, feel free! You can post anything there that's fashion or beauty-related, as long as its your own shot.

I show you what I'm wearing all the time. But now thanks to the group, you get to see what other readers are wearing, too!

You Can Do This: Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham looked tres chic while out shopping this week. Fortunately for us, this is an easy look to imitate.

Start with a simple shell like this one, $29.50 at Eddie Bauer.

Get Your Houndstooth On

When you see not one but two incredibly stylish actresses out and about in houndstooth on the same week, you know there's a trend going on...

Amanda Seyfried wears an adorable houndstooth dress that's a definite wardrobe classic.

What I Wore: Superbowl Party

I wore this to a Superbowl party last night at the home of some friends from New Orleans. We had a blast and I'm so glad I remembered I had a boxful of Mardi Gras beads in our attic moments before we left for the party! The kids and I were definitely ready for a Saints win!

And on this note, what do you think of starting a Flickr group for this blog? You could add photos of yourself in outfits you love or post photos of options for a big event and get our advice, or post something you bought for a great price or the results of a fabulous trip to your hairstylist or any other fashion and beauty-related photos that you took yourself. I'll turn some of them into posts on this blog. I love the idea of letting readers help you all choose what to wear.

What to Wear? Blissdom Cocktail Party

So! I'm going to the Blissdom cocktail party here in Nashville in a few hours and I need! Your! Help! Although I've narrowed it down to black or black/white, I can't decide what to wear- so let's put it to a vote...

Should I go for the classy LBD and Tarzhay statement necklace? (This is what I'm leaning toward.)

Splurge: Hunter Boots

I really don't splurge on clothing and accessories very often. I'm more of a get-the-most-bang-for-my-buck kind of girl than a save-and-save-and-save-and-save-and-buy-one-handbag one.

But when I started seeing Hunter boots around town and in the magazines last fall, I was intrigued.

Testing out the Trend: Red Lips

On the heels of our discussion about red lipstick a few weeks ago, Avon came calling.

Someone from the company e-mailed to ask if I'd like to try Avon's new Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick SPF 15 and since, by all accounts, lipstick is back with a vengeance and the Ultra Color Rich Mega Impact Lipstick SPF 15 line featured a bright red hue called Charged Cherry, I was all over it.

Style Inspiration: All the Pretty Birds

I recently discovered a blog called All the Pretty Birds, a record of the photographs Tamu McPherson takes of fashionistas on the streets of Paris, Milan, and anywhere else she happens to be.

It's a great way to see what the world's most stylish women are wearing on a daily basis and it's given me lots of ideas. Plus, Tamu couldn't be nicer- When I wrote to ask permission to use a photo from her blog, she wrote right back and said she was a mom, too, and knew how hard it could be to stay stylish once kids enter the picture.

Hair You Can Have: The Side Braid

So many hair trends are completely unrealistic for the average woman- We just don't have the time/money/stylist it takes to pull the look off. But here's a hot, hot look for Spring that anyone with medium to long hair can do- the side braid.

Side braids were all over the runways for the Spring 2010 fashion shows, and during last week's fashion events in Paris, many of the hautest women in town were sporting side braids on the streets. I'm also starting to see them on the starlets at Hollywood premieres.

My Speak No Evil Grammy Recap

Grammy fashion is always entertaining and this year was no exception, particularly since last night brought us so few all-out hits and so many delightful misses.

But apparently, the Lord was anticipating my impending schadenfreude, because I happened to watch a sermon yesterday morning in which the preacher basically said, "Quit writing snarky posts, LINDSAY." At least, that's what it felt like, which means either I'm an insufferable narcissist or the preacher is really good at making everyone feel like he's talking directly to them.

Hot Trend: Break Up Boring Black with a Neutral or Bright Pink Scarf

The stars are livening up their winter wardrobes with scarves in two colors-of-the-moment.

Jennifer Westfeldt got a jumpstart on the Spring neutrals trend at Sundance last week by breaking up her basic black with a beige scarf. And she wasn't the only celeb with this bright idea...

I wore this on Sunday and thought I'd share. Pardon the mugging. I just can't keep a straight face when Hubs is taking the picture!

I got this velvet Eden blazer from J. Crew. Right now, enter EXTRA30 at checkout and it's just $41.99! The ruffle shell I'm wearing also is from J. Crew and is now out of stock, but here's a similar one, on sale with the EXTRA30 discount for $34.99.

Hot Trend: The Gold Bag

The stars are out and about lately with gold bags. In fact, gold and silver bags and shoes are turning up all over the place, from Payless to J. Crew to Kate Spade.

Over-the-top fashionista Katie Perry toned down her look this week, but her gold satchel kept things spicy.

You Can Do This: Julia Roberts in Paris

Julia Roberts was looking gorgeous recently while out with her husband in Paris. It's easy to copy her style, which is a wonderful blend of timeless and trendy. Here are some ideas on scoring this look...

Make a statement with a bold orange bag like Julia's. This Chinese Laundry bag is just $54.00 and comes in several other bright colors as well. It doesn't matter which color you choose- just make sure it stands out from the rest of your outfit.

Buy It Now: A New Coat for Next Season

If your winter coat is looking a little worse for the wear, now's the time to buy a new one for next season. Coats are at their lowest prices right now, with all the major department stores offering some great deals online. Stick with classic styles, like peacoats, walking coats, and trenchcoats and avoid trendier looks like the puffer jacket, and you'll be set for next fall!

Here are a few great coats on sale that I found in a quick search at Nordstrom....

Let the Stars Follow Our Lead!

Have the stars been reading this blog?

It sure looked like it at last weekend's big award ceremonies. Take a look!

Zoe Saldana looked lovely in black and white at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Friday night. This makes me want to try putting a black belt with a white dress for a more current look.
