Moving Day

It's official, girls- I've moved!

Bookmark She's Still Got It's new web address here!

Add it to your feed reader here!

I started things off by answering a reader question
about finding the perfect beach wedding dress.
And then I tried out a new trend Madonna was sporting last week- with disastrous results.
I'll be posting on The Stir between two and three times a day, so check in often!

Big News

As many of you know, I started this blog on a whim during my kids' Christmas break last year. I had been searching fruitlessly for a style blog I could relate to- and when I couldn't find one, I decided in the space of about five minutes to start my own.

I started this blog knowing that there was an excellent chance it wouldn't last longer than a week or two... that no one would read it... that people would tell me I didn't know what I was talking about... that I would get tired of it.

But something entirely different happened. For one thing I absolutely loved writing it. It provided the most delicious escape and putting posts together never, ever got old. For another, a lot of people were reading it-- more people than I had ever dreamed would.

I would love to write this blog for a living, I thought to myself. I would be so happy if I got paid to write these posts. This is a lot of work, but it's so much fun. This would be the perfect job...

Oprah would call this an "A-ha!" moment... But for me, it was more of a "Duh!" moment.

A few e-mails and one proposal later? I have the perfect job.

Starting Monday, She's Still Got It will move to Cafe Mom, the number one mom's site on the Internet. The content will be the same (but there will be more of it) and I'll still have a dedicated page over there with all of my posts.

The big difference? I'll be getting paid to do what I love.

"This is so awesome," I told my husband the other day as I flipped through a fashion magazine. "I can read fashion magazines now without feeling guilty. Because I'm doing research."

You can bet I'll be doing some important "research" at the mall as well. Heh.

Don't worry about the logistics- For those of you who visit from Twitter and Facebook, I'll link you straight to my posts on Cafe Mom's "The Stir" pages. And there will be links here, too. It should be a pretty seamless transition.

And I couldn't be more excited.

Have a great weekend, everyone! I'll see you on Monday over at Cafe Mom!

Deal of the Day: A Jessie Steele Apron Featured in SATC 2!

A couple of weeks ago, I featured Jessie Steele aprons in my Mother's Day gift guide post. (Did you catch that one? If not, go read it, because it contains several great gift ideas that are perfect for moms, relatives, girlfriends, you name it.)

Anyway, I've been a fan of Jessie Steele's deliciously retro aprons for years- I have one, my daughter has a matching one (I KNOW!) and I've given them as gifts. As it turns out, I was onto something. Something big.

Help Desk: Can a Preschool Teacher Be Stylish AND Realistic?

Today's Help Desk question comes from Meghan:

I am a preschool teacher, at a Christian school, and we have a very strict dress code. We must dress professional, business casual, but I'm running around with kids all day, so I need comfort and wash-ability when it comes to clothes. We must wear closed toed shoes, or sandals with straps (no heels). We can wear pants, capris, and the occasional dark denim jean, skirts and dresses, but they must come down to at least our knee. Shirts must have sleeves, must not be too tight, can't be revealing (at all), and need to be cool, as it is about to be summer time in Texas, and we spend a lot of time outside. I usually wear a pair of khakis, a fitted t-shirt made of a nicer material than a regular tee, a cardigan, and loafers. Boring. If I'm feeling exciting, I'll wear a skirt, sandals, and a blouse... with a cardigan. I have a huge walk-in closet full of clothes- mostly basics, but for some reason, I can't put together an outfit that is stylish for work. I'm starting to look like my kindergarten teachers- I'm afraid holiday vests and ankle length denim skirts are around the corner. :(

Hair You Can Have: "The Onion"

My hair is stick straight. If the humidity is low, I can use hot rollers or a curling iron and get some results. If the humidity is high, fuggedaboutit.

So it was with great trepidation that I took the advice of a fashion magazine recently (which I now have misplaced, consarn it). The article instructed me to twist my freshly-washed wet hair and coil it like an onion on the top of my head. In the morning, I'd wake up with luscious waves.

Consumer Report: Ideeli

I wrote a few months ago about those invitation-only shopping sites, like Rue La La, Haute Look, Gilt Groupe and Ideeli. Most of these sites give you a $10 credit for each person you referred to the site that ends up making a purchase. Ideeli.com gives you a $25 credit. Ideeli is also my favorite of the invitation-only sites because it features designers I like (today for example? Pucci shoes!) that quite often are under $100. It has been popular with you guys, too, because in no time flat, I found myself with a $75 Ideeli credit.

I waited around until I found a sale I liked and finally used it on these amazing sandals by Lovely People. They were originally something like $159, on sale for $64, and with $10 shipping, my total came to $74. Which means it was 100% free.

Right This Moment: Starlets Channel The Great Gatsby

Okay, so the annual Costume Institute Gala took place at the Met in NYC a few nights ago- It doesn't get nearly as much publicity as the Oscars, but it's just as much fun to see what all the starlets were wearing when the pictures are posted the next day.

This time, I couldn't help but notice a certain similarity in hairstyles- one I think you'll find interesting.

Help Desk: How Should I Wear My Scarf?

I have gotten several requests asking how to tie a scarf. Well friends, I'm here to help!

Or actually, Melanie of The Big Mama Blog is. She produced, directed and starred in this video last year and it may be the first blogger video that I've ever been able to watch in its entirety. And that's saying something, people, because it is almost ten minutes long! Melanie is that good!

Yay or Nay: Denim Overall Cutoffs

I have witnessed a horrific trend lately and it appears to be spreading.

Remember this?

Yes, ladies, those butt ugly overall cutoffs are back, only designers are attempting to disguise them by calling them "denim rompers." Also? They're charging up to $328 for them.

Right This Moment: Lucite

In its April issue, Harper's Bazaar featured a luxe spread of Cindy Crawford in lucite jewelry. She looked so sophisticated that I became convinced I had to sport some lucite bling or be forever relegated to frumpsville.

olivia-palermo
Meanwhile, socialite Olivia Palermo's lucite necklace attracts attention without weighing her down.

Here's why you should consider wearing lucite, too. Lucite bangles, rings, and necklaces are extremely hot among couture designers right now and therefore extremely pricey. (Prada, for example, is featuring an edgy lucite heel on some of its pumps.) However, there are a few knockoffs to be found- knockoffs that look exactly like their far-more-expensive counterparts. Here are a few examples...

My Mother's Day Picks

Did you put off your Mother's Day shopping until the last minute again? The good news is that there's still time to order one of these gems and have it sent to your mother in plenty of time for Sunday. Here are a few great gift ideas I can personally recommend...

I became obsessed with Jessie Steele's aprons a few years ago. They are literally the cutest retro-style aprons I've ever seen and I had to have one. I ended up choosing the one pictured above and I wear it almost every day. It really helps making dinner or cleaning up feel more like a quirky, Donna Reed experience. Even better, it has absolutely saved countless outfits from getting ruined. I don't know how I went so long without an apron!

Style Inspiration: Anthropologie's May Catalog

If you're a regular She's Still Got It reader, you know that catalogs can be a great way to get style inspiration without spending money on fashion magazines. One of my favorites is Anthropologie. Here are a few inspiring images from their May catalog.

What I love about this outfit is the accessorizing. Take a basic dress, add a bright yellow belt and a coral bag and suddenly, you're totally fashion-forward.
