Hall of Shame: Kelis

Singular Style: Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth is not a great actress (although I freely admit I sort of loved Blue Crush) and a few supersized meals a week would do the girl good- but all snark aside, today's leading ladies could take lessons from Kate in the style department. Kate is almost always immaculately dressed, whether she's attending a party or out with a friend for lunch. Witness the following examples...

Who would think to coordinate with the red carpet? Kate Bosworth, that's who.

She manages to make even basic black and white look crazy hot.

Hot Trend: Rock the Lingerie Look Without Looking Like a Total Slut

By now, you're seeing it all over the place- lingerie inspired daywear. This is a trend doomed to go awry with most amateur fashionistas, but rest assured you can pull it off and still look ladylike and sophisticated. Just don't do this...

Elle.com loved this Parisian's lingerie-inspired look, but I'm thinking she gives new meaning to the term 'streetwalker.'

My tip? Avoid anything that's overtly lingerie-like, i.e., corsets, bras and merry widows. Don't choose lingerie-inspired clothing that's too tight or shows too much skin. Stay away from cheap-looking lace- You know what I'm talking about. And know before you go out looking that most of what you find is going to be inappropriate and/or tacky- I discovered this fact after spending the last hour sifting through hundreds of options out there to find a handful of lingerie-inspired items that were appropriate.

Horrors: The Man Scarf

While dining at local hotspot Whiskey Kitchen last night, I saw something horrifying. And then I saw it again. And that's when I realized with cold fear in my heart that what should have never left German discotheques and the pages of men's magazines had gone mainstream.

THE MAN SCARF.

Anthropologie's Take on Spring Neutrals

Anthropologie has a gorgeous spread showcasing its neutral clothing for Spring- The photos gave me lots of great ideas on how to wear neutrals and what to pair them with. I also love seeing the shoes and accessories Anthropologie's stylists chose to accentuate the looks. The good news is that you probably already have some of these pieces in your closet. What's more, the neutral pieces you buy now will always be in style.

You'd almost certainly be the most stylish girl in the car rider pick-up line with this ensemble!

What I'm Wearing

I wore this on Sunday and thought I'd share. Pardon the mugging. I just can't keep a straight face when Hubs is taking the picture!

I got this velvet Eden blazer from J. Crew. Right now, enter EXTRA30 at checkout and it's just $41.99! The ruffle shell I'm wearing also is from J. Crew and is now out of stock, but here's a similar one, on sale with the EXTRA30 discount for $34.99.

Coral + Yellow = Fabuliciousness

My Super Sweet Suave Party, Part One

Last summer at the BlogHer conference, I was contacted by Suave and asked if I'd like to set up a hair appointment that weekend with celebrity stylist Luke O'Connor (who does Kate Walsh and Debra Messing's hair, among others). I was all HECK YEAH. In fact, I set up appointments for all four CheeseburgHer Party hostesses on the afternoon before our big soiree, and getting our hair done together was one of the most fun parts of the entire weekend.

I'm telling you this now because last month, Suave contacted me again and asked if I'd like to host a party of my own and invite nine friends to have their hair did by the stylist of my choice. Once again, I was all HECK YEAH!! I scored two stylists from Trim (Ellen and Gabrael), which is where all the celebs in town get their hair done, ordered food from everyone's favorite lunch spot, the Puffy Muffin, and had myself a party, y'all! And you get to see the results of all my guests' styling sessions! I'll be featuring two ladies every day this week.

Hot Trend: The Gold Bag

The stars are out and about lately with gold bags. In fact, gold and silver bags and shoes are turning up all over the place, from Payless to J. Crew to Kate Spade.

You Can Do This: Julia Roberts in Paris

Julia Roberts was looking gorgeous recently while out with her husband in Paris. It's easy to copy her style, which is a wonderful blend of timeless and trendy. Here are some ideas on scoring this look...

Make a statement with a bold orange bag like Julia's. This Chinese Laundry bag is just $54.00 and comes in several other bright colors as well. It doesn't matter which color you choose- just make sure it stands out from the rest of your outfit.

Buy It Now: A New Coat for Next Season

If your winter coat is looking a little worse for the wear, now's the time to buy a new one for next season. Coats are at their lowest prices right now, with all the major department stores offering some great deals online. Stick with classic styles, like peacoats, walking coats, and trenchcoats and avoid trendier looks like the puffer jacket, and you'll be set for next fall!

Here are a few great coats on sale that I found in a quick search at Nordstrom....

Spring Shoes: The Neutrals

One trend I'm liking a lot for Spring is the neutral shoe. Wearing shoes that match your skin is a classic way to look thinner, since the color blends with your skin and lengthens your frame. Neiman Marcus has a great page with designer takes on the trend-

Pretty pumps.

Let the Stars Follow Our Lead!

Have the stars been reading this blog?

It sure looked like it at last weekend's big award ceremonies. Take a look!

Zoe Saldana looked lovely in black and white at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards on Friday night. This makes me want to try putting a black belt with a white dress for a more current look.

Hot Trend: Neutrals

If you're not much of a black/white and red girl or you're just looking for something new, never fear, ladies. Neutrals are another big trend for Spring. But you have to be careful with this look- Done wrong, it can totally wash you out or worse, leave you looking like a clown. Take a look...

When wearing neutrals, don't overdo it on the makeup. The results can be disastrous, Rachel McAdams.

I Love

Here are a few things I've found recently on the web...

My friend Amy introduced me to HauteLook, another members only website with designer clothing and accessories. Clicking around the first day I joined, I first drooled over Cartier watches, then seriously coveted this more affordable bag ($120, down from $240) from Christian Audigier. I'll definitely be back! You Can Do This: Amanda Seyfried's Stripey Style

Style Do's and Don'ts From Our Friendly Celebrities!

Do take a lesson from Mary Kate (for once!) and balance out your proportions. If you're wearing something loose fitting on top, break out a pencil skirt or skinny jeans and boots on bottom. Conversely, if you're wearing wide legged pants, opt for a fitted cardigan or blouse on top as opposed to a blazer or baggy jacket.

Don't make the mistake of buying into a trend if it's not flattering on you. I'm sure Rebecca Romijn simply thought, "Stripes! Hot!" when she chose this dress, but I'm left with, "Circus! Clown!", which is probably not what she'd intended.

Deal of the Day: Overstock.com

How did it take me so long to find out about Overstock.com? It's essentially an online TJ Maxx, with fantastic prices on designer clothing, shoes and jewelry. There's even an upscale designer section, with Prada handbags and Gucci sunglasses! But if you find something you like, you'd better get it fast- Things sell out quickly! Here are a few things I found that were noteworthy...

Chunky bracelets are big for Spring and this onyx version definitely fits the bill! It's just $13.49.

Hot Trend: Crossbody Bags

The latest fad is an incredibly easy one to get in on, it's perfect for moms and busy women in particular, and chances are you won't have to spend a dime to do it.

Crossbody bags are the way to go right now in Hollywood, whether celebrities are walking through the airport or attending a red carpet event. All the major retailers are fully stocked with crossbody bags right now, however you can make the look work with practically any bag with a shoulder strap, particularly if it's adjustable.

Hot Trend: Red, Baby!

With all the black and white in this Spring's style line-up, many designers are accenting the look with red. Red is one of my favorite colors and is a fashion staple, no matter what the season. Any red you buy for your wardrobe has major investment piece potential.

As always, first shop your closet and see what red you already have in stock- Probably plenty! If not, here are a few ideas...

Get a jump start on this look with a gorgeous red coat to end the winter season. This J. Crew coat is on sale now for $220, but with the code EXTRA20, you can get an additional 20% off the coat and free shipping, meaning that you pay just $176. I think this coat is AMAZING and well worth the price. I have a red J. Crew coat that's in its eighth year and still going strong!

A simple red dress like this one would look great under a black blazer or cardigan at work- and transitions right into a date night afterward. This dress, from Inc., is on sale for $69.99 at Macys, with 99 cent shipping!

Deal of the Day: Dress Hollywood

This Deal of the Day comes from reader Kathy, who sent me the URL to a site that is destined to become one of my new obsessions.

Dress Hollywood is a website that sells designer clothing purchased for television shows and movies- and the prices are FANTASTIC. Some of the clothing has been worn, much of it is brand new, all of it is fabulous. Brands range from Forever 21 and Banana Republic to Christian Dior, Gucci, and Christian Louboutin. Prices range from $3 to over a thousand dollars. And while it definitely helps if you're a size 2, I found plenty of medium, large, and even extra-large sizes with a little digging. Here are a few of my favorite finds.

I Love

I can't stop thinking about this vintage party dress from the 50s, but at $350, there's a 0% chance I'll ever wear it. *sigh* Check out this Etsy seller's shop, Timeless Vixen Vintage, for similarly dreamy (and outrageously expensive!) dresses.

This gorgeous clip from Anthropologie works either in your hair or on your lapel. At just $18 and in five different colors, I'm in love.

I can't stop looking at this photo of Kate Beckinsale out shopping with her daughter. I love everything about her look, from head to toe. I think I've got versions of everything she's wearing, too. I wanted to replicate the look and started with the hairstyle the other day. My husband got home from work, took one look and said "Hey Bunhead." FAIL. But I still love this photo...

Avoid This Look: The Belly Burner

I've started seeing ads for The Belly Burner on television. Who knows if they work or not? What astounds me is that the commercial shows people wearing these things to the gym and even out on public sidewalks- OVER THEIR CLOTHES.

Seriously? If this thing catches on, it will put Snuggie wearers to shame.

Deal of the Day: All NYDJ Pants Under $50 at 6pm.com!

Loyal She's Still Got It reader ClassyFabSarah alerted me to this fantastic sale going on right now at 6pm.com: All NYDJ pants are under $50! These jeans retail for between $90 and $120, so this is quite a deal.

I reviewed a pair of these jeans over the weekend- See for yourself how I look in mine. They are high-quality jeans and have the same ultra-classy look as the expensive pair of designer jeans I splurged on last year. But what makes NYDJ jeans really special is that they are designed to lift and shape your bum and suck in your tummy, making you look as thin as it's possible for you to look in jeans! Hey, works for me!

Hot Trend: Black and White

Get excited about black and white- The color combination is in, in, in this Spring and not only does everyone look good in black and white, but you have my permission to SPEND on this trend if you've got the cash, because you will end up with classic pieces that can be worn year after year. The other great thing about the black and white trend is that you probably already have a good number of suitable pieces in your closet. We've gone over black and white in polka dots and stripes- Here are a few more of my favorite ways to update your look for Spring.

Yes, it's on sale at Bluefly for a sort of expensive $163.99, but baby this Nicole Miller dress is haute! I WANT IT. BAD.

I'm very lucky that these black and white patterned dresses are big this Spring- My closet is already full of them! This one is from White House Black Market, it's $98, it would work on a wide range of body types, and *ahem* it's totally my style.

Let's Talk About Kate Gosselin's New 'Do EDITED WITH NEW INFORMATION

A reader asked me on Twitter what I thought of Kate Gosselin's new hairdo. Are you kidding? I. Love. It.

I mean, the real question is how could a woman who's really quite pretty persist in that clown cut she'd been sporting the last few years? Now, she finally looks stylish and glamorous and... and... hot. And as a single mom of eight, that's a good thing, to put it mildly.

Beauty Uncensored: When Good Fashion Goes Bad

I have this fabulous Ralph Lauren military style jacket that I got back in college. I'll have to take a picture of it some time so that you can view its awesomeness for yourself. I've never seen anything quite like it.

Avoid This Trend: Ripped Jeans

Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you should. Right, Mom?

Trendsetters are updating the skinny jeans look by adding holes and tears, and while this is a fine idea for teenagers, I hope none of you ladies fall victim to this trend. It really looks inexcusably silly on anyone over 25.

Hot for Spring

I spent the freezing cold weekend looking ahead to Spring by poring over the Spring 2010 fashion shows. For the most part, you can expect an ultra-feminine season, with lots of lace, ruffles, silk and chiffon fabrics, beaded detail, and the standout colors red and yellow taking center stage alongside classic black and white and quieter neutral beiges and caramels. Here are photos from a few of my favorite shows. The photo galleries from each of the ones I've featured are worth checking out in their entirety.

Red lipstick and lingerie as outerwear were big at Christian Dior, my favorite Spring 2010 show. Yes, the lingerie-by-day thing is making a comeback. No, you probably shouldn't try it unless it takes the form of a cute dress with lingerie-esque details. Lingerie as outerwear generally works best on women under 25 who are out clubbing. The end.

Hair You Can Have: Michelle Trachtenberg

I really liked Michelle Trachtenberg's hair in this photo, so the other day, I decided to try my own version of her style. I typically don't do anything at all with my hair and have been needing a few new quick styling options. This one ended up being a big success as far as I was concerned.

Cute, right?

What I'm Wearing

I wore this on New Year's Day. We went out for Mexican food with the kids and I was feeling festive. Or bored, maybe. Anyway, I love this outfit- I wore this shirt from Ann Taylor (alas, they only have it in blue now, but it is a GREAT top), a skirt from Forever 21 (sold out but here's a similar one), and these boots by Steve Madden. I'll have a little discussion on my hair later on today.

Anyway, a great time was had by me! Happy New Year, everyone!
